Wisconsin is a beautiful place with lots of places to explore near our Stone Point Apartments in Menomonee Falls. Today on the blog, we’re featuring a few hiking tips so you can fully take advantage of the beauty of our city and community. Read on for some ideas to make the most of your next hike.

Dress the part.

Feeling comfortable and ready for the great outdoors starts with a great outfit. As you prepare, remember important factors like the weather, changes in body temperature according to where you’re hiking, the range of motion your clothes allow, and personal comfort. Determine whether your hiking trail warrants hiking boots or whether some good sneakers may do the trick. And bring along a hat and sunscreen to protect your skin from a sunburn.

Map your route.

Being spontaneous can be fun when planning a hiking trip, but planning a little bit beforehand can save you a lot of time and energy before, during, and after your trip. Figure out who’s going with you and the proper difficulty level of the hike, according to who’s going and what you both want out of it. Be sure to tell someone who’s staying behind where you’re going and how long you expect to be gone in case of an emergency.

Pack your bags.

Take a physical map, a compass or portable GPS, plenty of water, hiking snacks, extra sunscreen, and emergency supplies (a first-aid kit, materials for a splint, etc.) handy. These items will help you out in all situations. You might not need them all, but if you do, you’ll be glad you took the time to prepare.
